Examination case studies – June 2013

If you are booked to take the Assessing the Marketing Environment (AME) , Delivering Customer Value Through Marketing (DCVTM) or Analysis and Decision (A&D) examination in March 2013, these examinations are based on a case study.

Most CIM examinations (with the exceptions of Unit 1 of the Introductory Certificate “What is Marketing?’ and Unit 1 of the Professional Certificate “Marketing essentials’) are now based on case study material that is sent out before the exam. This is usually available to students on the Friday of the fifth week before the CIM examination week.

It is essential that this summary is your own work and that you understand it. Group submissions or those written by third parties will not gain good marks and you may be penalised for plagiarism or collusion! You will not gain marks for the analysis itself but for how you use this analysis to support the answers you write. For this reason, it is recommended that you number your diagrams/figures/tables for ease of reference.

Very few marks will be gained from simply referring to eg, a diagram within your analysis; you need to explain why the material contained within this diagram is relevant to your answer. The explanation will also hopefully demonstrate the insight you have into the case material and that you understand the relevance and application of the diagram you are referring to.
