Assessment re-marking and feedback service

If you haven’t achieved the results you were hoping for and have gained a D,E,F or U grade, it’s often easy to become disheartened. However, help is at hand; we are here to provide you with lots of support and resources to help you achieve your best results.

In the first instance, you should refer to the senior examiners’ reports which incorporate a range of examples of good practice. These reports are available after each exam session highlighting areas of weakness and recommending what you could do to address these areas.

If you still have further questions on your assessments, contact your tutor who may be able to provide you with additional guidance.

Following these two checks if you would like some formal personalised feedback, we have developed a new service to support this.

The re-marking and feedback service is for students who have requested more detailed, contextualised feedback based on their scripts/assignments and there are three options to choose from. The next feedback service period regards the March 2013 session; it will open on the 31 of March 2013 and close on the 05 July 2013.

The following service is available for all units of the new syllabus:

Option one: procedural and mark check

Retrieval of the assessment followed by a procedural check, which would include checking the transposition of marks from the assessment to the mark sheet, the recording of results into the system and the reporting of marks to the studying member.

Fee £15

Please note: This option may take up to 20 working days to complete and if in the very unlikely event that a procedural error is identified; the fee for option one will be reimbursed.

Option two: re-marking service

Studying members who feel strongly that the grade they have been awarded for the unit(s) taken is not reflective of the work they submitted, can request a re-mark. This request will include the procedural check described above. Your assessment(s) will need to be sent to the senior examiner(s) or level verifier(s) for re-marking; it will not be done by the same examiner who marked it originally. Studying members should note that D grade assessments have already been second-marked by the senior examiner.

You should be aware that as a consequence of a re-mark, your grade could go up, down, or stay the same as originally published. If the grade falls, you cannot refuse it and ask for the original grade to stand.

Once the re-marked result is received, this mark will be ratified and entered onto our database. If your grade changes, you will receive a new results letter and letter of testimony.

Fee: £65 per assessment unless option one has already been completed in which case the fee is £50.

Please note: This option may take an additional 20 working days (plus 20 working days for option 1) to complete, and if in the very unlikely event your grade changes from a fail to a pass, the fee you have paid will be refunded.

Option three: individual candidate feedback report

The studying member’s assessment will be retrieved and sent to an examiner who was part of the team for the session concerned and they will write feedback based on the following headings:

  • Concepts and underpinning theory.
  • Application to context.
  • Use of relevant examples.
  • Appropriate insight.
  • Ability to recommend and justify.
  • Evaluation techniques.
  • Format and presentation.
  • Examples of good practice.
  • Suggested areas for improvement.

If the student’s mark has not already been checked by our usual sampling processes, the mark will also be checked to ensure that it is consistent with the standards agreed by the Awarding Body.

Please note: This option may take an additional 25 working days (plus 20 working days for option 1) to complete.

In addition, there will be a tick box area:
  • Interpretation of the paper/assignment brief.
  • Teaching and learning.
  • Use of wider reading.
  • Contextualisation.
  • Knowledge, application and evaluation/Use of appendices.
  • Reference to case study/Word count.
  • Revision/referencing.
  • Presentation (assignments only).

Fee £100 unless option one has already been undertaken, in which case it is £85.

Please note: This option may take an additional 25 working days to complete.
