2012 – 2013 Price Changes

We have developed the following Q&A to clarify the new changes to our membership fees for the coming year, and the reasons why. We trust it helps answer your questions about the changes.

Why have you changed membership prices?

As the largest marketing community in the world, The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) strives to deliver valuable products and services to marketers to help you in your marketing role. We have therefore introduced additional benefits in 2011/12 following feedback from our members. Our performance however is directly related to the world economic climate we have worked hard to make these improvements whilst operating in a difficult economic environment.

We also recognise we have a strong international presence, and it seems appropriate to harmonise our membership prices to ensure consistency for out member across the world and to better position our membership offering to all marketers

What have you changed?

After considerable feedback from our members, we have merged the professional affiliate and studying membership grades into a single grade – Affiliate. Our wish is to simplify the number of membership rates and encourage members to develop their career along a clearer career path all supported by the Chartered CPD Programme. The table below outlines all fees by grade. Fees are reduced if you opt to pay by annual Direct Debit.

Membership grade UK / Western Europe (£) International (£)
Fellow 210 185
Member 180 150
Associate 160 130
Affiliate 140 100

Please note: There is no additional charge for Chartered Marketers. If you are a Chartered Marketer, you will pay the same subscription as your membership grade ie, either Member or Fellow as listed above.

Why do Chartered Marketers not pay an increment for being chartered?

Chartered Marketers have previously been charged an additional fee for being chartered. We recognise the work that is required to achieve Chartered Marketer status and maintain that no additional charge should be added for this accolade. We would like to applaud the achievement of Chartered Marketer status via our Chartered CPD Programme and following support from members we are pleased to maintain this for the coming year.

Why is there a discount if you pay Direct Debit?

The annual Direct Debit discount remains at £15 eg the Associate fee for CIM membership is £160, however if you pay by annual Direct Debit it will only be £145. Paying your subscription fee by annual Direct Debit significantly reduces our administration costs as it’s managed through an automated service rather than manually. We do not wish to benefit from this but rather pass on our thanks to those who have set up an annual Direct Debit with us and therefore help us to keep costs to a minimum.

What changes will happen to my membership in 2012 – 2013?

We aim to provide quality development for people in marketing. In the coming year we will include new benefits to your membership and improve existing benefits including:

• Marketing Expert – Launched last year, this hub of knowledge and templates allows you to download anything from a marketing plan model to a briefing model. There are more than 200 templates available to you and these will continue to be updated and added to throughout the year.

• A hard copy of The Marketer magazine to all our members regardless of location.

• Practical webinars to ensure our members are able to keep up with the latest developments in marketing.

• An improved career offering to help you excel in your marketing career.

• A change to our exemption fees for members taking any of our qualifications – these will now be consistent across the UK and overseas at £10 per unit.

• A £15 reduction in our feedback service (from £115 down to £100) for any members studying who wish to receive feedback on their recent assessment.

• Studying support webinars to ensure all studying members have the best possible chance of excelling in their CIM qualifications.

• Improved Getin2Marketing microsite for all those taking their first step into marketing.

Why did you remove the Africa rate of subscription for professional members?

Following the principle of simplicity, the Africa rate of subscription will be merged with the “International reduced rates”. The international reduced rates apply to those countries that have a GDP of less than USD$5,000 per individual. Along with this change all members in Africa will receive, from July, The Marketer magazine delivered to your door to help you keep up with what’s happening in the world of marketing.

Why should I continue with my membership?

Membership with your professional body demonstrates a serious commitment to your work as a marketer especially when actively participating in the Chartered CPD Programme. This shows your dedication to always improving your own knowledge levels and abilities.

Your CPD journey can ultimately lead to Chartered Marketer status – the mark of an up to date, experienced and qualified marketing professional – and we are the only professional body granted the authority to award this status. The current job market is very competitive and having a relationship with CIM referenced on your CV will help to demonstrate your commitment to your career and set you apart from the competition.
