New Qualifications Information

The Chartered Institute of Marketing periodically reviews its qualifications to ensure that they are relevant to marketers’ needs and the requirements of business. Over the years, the core theory of marketing has changed little. However, the role of marketing in business worldwide has changed significantly, largely due to technology but also due to businesses recognizing that they have a number of stakeholders rather than simply a number of different external customer groups.

The most recent review, undertaken in 2007 has resulted in a revised structure and updated content for each of CIM’s four core qualifications. Consultation and focus groups were held with CIM tutors, students and employers followed by a development process involving a range of academics and marketing practitioners. In addition, the development team has referred to the MSSSB National Occupational Standards (NOS) for marketing and the changes therefore are also a response to any differences identified between these standards and CIM’s qualifications.
